Objectives

The over­all aim of this project is to inves­ti­gate how pathogen-​induced inflam­ma­tion affects the
devel­op­ment of glu­cose intol­er­ance in obese sub­jects.
Our research objec­tives are for­mu­lated as follows:

1. To inves­ti­gate how VAT-​infection of obese mice affects the devel­op­ment of insulin resis­tance and glu­cose intolerance.

2. To elu­ci­date which cell sub­sets play a role in pathogen-​induced VAT-​inflammation and how these cells affect the onset of insulin resis­tance and glu­cose intolerance.

3. To com­pare the num­ber and phe­no­type of leuko­cytes in VAT of obese and obese dia­betic human patients, with or with­out seropos­i­tiv­ity for CMV.
